Why Your Business Needs a Facebook Page

December 30, 2011 By Liz Gallagher
Facebook Page for Web Image Designs

Social media has made great strides in gaining a foothold in the business world over the last year. Yet it’s still an uphill battle to convince many entrepreneurs it’s worth their time to invest in the social media scene.

Social media platforms will surely continue to evolve at a rapid rate as viral marketing spreads at a fever pitch. Like it or not, though, social media is here to stay.

There is no “one-size-fits-all” social media formula that applies across the board to every type of business. Each company is unique and should develop a customized online marketing strategy. However, the one platform that every business ought to be on is Facebook.

Great Copy Sells

December 11, 2011 By Liz Gallagher
Copywriter for your web site

A lot of companies come to me looking for a new web site with all of the bells & whistles.  They want Flash, video, lot of pictures, oh and yeah some content.  Sometimes it seems like the copy is almost an afterthought.  Clients will often spend the extra money in their budget on a glitzy Flash banner but skip the copywriter.  “I’ll write it myself” is a phrase I hear all of the time.

The problem is that most of us are not professional writers.  We don’t know how to write good marketing copy that focuses on the needs of our target markets.  Heck, some companies don’t even define who their target market is before they begin to write.  Remember, the copy shouldn’t be about you and what you do.  The copy should be about the customer and how your product or service meets their needs or solves their problems.

What is a CMS and do I need one?

December 8, 2011 By Liz Gallagher

CMS is an acronym for Content Management System.  Your website can be built upon a Content Management platform which allows you to modify your own web site content directly in a browser.  You just bring up your website in Internet Explorer or the browser of your choice, log into your website and edit away.  You do not need to know html or any programming.  Editing your website is just like working in a Word document.  You can add bold text, color, italics, and bullets – just about anything you can do in Word – without having to contact your web designer for help.  Read More

Organizing Your WordPress Blog for SEO

December 1, 2011 By Liz Gallagher
Organize your blog for SEO

WordPress offers a lot of flexibility when it comes to organizing your blog posts.  You create blog categories and tags on the fly as you write each article.  Other than having to put every article into a category (and it defaults to the “Uncategorized” category if you forget to select one!) there really are no hard and fast rules.  You can put the same article into multiple categories and create as many tags as you want to further classify the content.  When you first start out, this all seems great.  But after you’ve been blogging for a while, adding more and more categories with each post , you’ll notice that your blog eventually becomes cluttered and disorganized.  It’s hard to find older articles because you can’t remember which category you placed them in and the same articles keep appearing over and over because you put them in too many places.

The worst part is all of this duplication of copy can actually cause you to be penalized in Google.  Read More

WordPress Website with Client Portal

WordPress Website for Kids Unlimited Services Inc.

The website for Kids Unlimited Services Inc. was custom-designed to meet their unique needs. Built on WordPress, the website is easy-to-use and search engine-friendly. The staff at Kids Unlimited loves the ability to update their own web pages through the WordPress admin program. It allows them to keep the site up-to-date and helps them to better serve their customers.

Kids Unlimited provides services to in-home daycare providers, including referrals, home visits, food program and training. Because their program is voucher-funded through the state of Massachusetts, each provider must submit weekly and monthly attendance logs to get paid. Web Image Designs created a custom portal where the providers can log in and submit their attendance logs.

Custom Drupal Web Site for Schaefer Power

Schaefer Power is a leading power supply manufacturer, specializing in custom power solutions. They wanted their new web site to have content management abilities to allow them to keep their own web site content up-to-date in an ever-changing industry. In addition to content management, another major requirement for this site was to have interactive discussion forums. They wanted their customers to be able to create an account and post questions to be answered by other customers or by Schaefer’s engineers.

This second requirement was the reason why Drupal was chosen as the Content Management Platform for the job. Drupal has a Forum module integrated with the core code and strong user-management features for customer account management.

Law Websites on WordPress

April 17, 2011 By Liz Gallagher

Family Law Web Site for Attorney Dan DaltonAttorney Daniel Dalton is a family lawyer in Chelmsford, Massachusetts whose practice focuses on divorce and other family law matters. He has been practicing law for over 25 years, and his practice is undergoing some changes. With this in mind, he wanted the ability to update his own website content so that changes could easily be made to the copy as needed. He also wanted a more updated look and feel for the website – a professional-looking site, but not your typical “stuffy” law website. Dan Dalton’s honest and straight-forward approach is refreshing, and the new site needed to capture this feeling.

A WordPress Content Management System was the ideal choice to meet Attorney Dalton’s needs.

Nine WordPress Web Sites in One!

April 17, 2011 By Liz Gallagher

WordPress Web Site for Quabbin Regional School DistrictThe Quabbin Regional School District’s web site is one-of-a-kind and a prime example of how WordPress development is only limited by one’s imagination. At first I was unsure that it could be done — nine web sites, nine blogs and nine different calendars — all under “one roof.” But with a little ingenuity, we made it work.

QRSD wanted a web site for the overall district, one for the High School, one for the Middle School and one for each of the six elementary schools. Each one would be maintained by their respective staff. Each one required different pages with different content, their own news blog and their own activity calendar.
